"Three Boys" is the fifth episode in the first season of Shameless. It originally aired on February 6, 2011.

Synopsis[]

The family fakes a wedding for Kevin when they learn Veronica comes with a substantial dowry; Frank is forced to schedule a biopsy after receiving startling news at the hospital; Steve looks for a new car, with Fiona along for the ride.

Plot[]

After learning of Kevin's secret, Fiona tries to convince Veronica not to get married, telling her "The way things are between you and Kevin right now, it seems perfect. Why ruin it?" Veronica initially seems to agree, to Kevin's relief, but Veronica quickly changes her mind when Carol implies that Veronica’s late father had left her a substantial dowry.

Learning that the wedding is back on, Fiona pressures Kevin into telling Veronica the truth. Kevin does so and reveals to Veronica that he is separated but still legally married to his abusive wife, Cheryl. At Fiona’s suggestion, Kevin and Veronica decide to set up a fake wedding in order to receive the free wedding gifts, as well as the cash payment from Carol.

Frank goes to the hospital for a check-up. Frank's doctor discovers a strange third lump in his scrotum; the doctor instructs Frank to schedule a biopsy for testicular cancer. Frank reveals the news of his biopsy to Sheila, but assures her that everything is fine. Despite this, Sheila still worries that Frank may die, which causes Frank to panic. Meanwhile, Ian and Kash discover that Linda and the kids will be out-of-town for an overnight retreat. With Linda's absence, Kash suggests that Ian spend the night at his place. Ian agrees.

Kevin, Veronica and the Gallaghers begin setting up the fake wedding: Fiona plans an impromptu bachelorette party for Veronica, Steve will provide the cake and the limo, and Debbie and Sheila help with the wedding dress. However, Carol—who believes that the wedding is legitimate—tells Veronica that the wedding has to be officiated by an ordained priest, or else she won't be attending. Lip, Ian and Carl end up blackmailing Father Pete, who is implied to be a pedophile, into officiating the wedding at the Alibi Room.

That night, Ian arrives at the Kash and Grab to spend the night with Kash. Kash invites Ian into his bedroom and begins giving Ian a back rub. Ian looks around the room and grows uncomfortable upon seeing Linda's hijab and pictures of their kids; he gets up to leave.

Fiona and Veronica have their bachelorette party, and Kevin throws his bachelor party at the Alibi Room. Frank, reeling from the biopsy, attends the party and drinks heavily. The next morning, a drunken Kevin discovers that Veronica’s mentally unstable and pyromaniac brother, Marty Fisher, has broken into the house. It is revealed that Marty has broken out of prison in hopes of attending the wedding. Veronica does not want Marty to come to the wedding, fearing that he’ll ruin it. When Marty discovers this, he locks himself in the bathroom with a lighter and threatens to burn the house down. Fiona and Veronica end up injecting a needle into Marty’s leg, which causes him to pass out; they then handcuff him to the toilet.

At the hospital, Frank's doctor reveals that the biopsy results came back negative, and that his tumor is benign. Frank hugs the doctor and celebrates.

With Marty out of the way, the Gallaghers continue on with the wedding. When Lip arrives at the Jackson house to pick up Frank and Karen, Sheila proudly announces that she's attending the wedding too. However, Sheila experiences a panic attack right before she opens the door; Karen sadly tells Sheila that she’ll get her a piece of cake.

Kevin and Veronica's wedding goes on without incident, though it is revealed that Marty has escaped from the house by breaking the toilet. Carol gives Kevin and Veronica the cash payment, which they discover is only five hundred dollars. Steve, who was in charge of picking up the wedding cake, arrives at the wedding late; he and Fiona share a kiss. Lip and Karen have sex in the bathroom, in which they discover Marty in the adjoining stall. Marty pulls out a box of matches and lights a match, staring at it intensely.

Post Credit Scene
