Shameless (US) is an American comedy-drama series adapted by John Wells based upon the British series of the same name.

Shameless airs on Showtime at 9/8c. This remake of the award-winning British series is set in Chicago's Canaryville neighborhood on the South Side, although filmed in Los Angeles, with the exterior scenes filmed in Chicago.

Plot[]

The series depicts the dysfunctional family of the Gallaghers who live in the South Side of Chicago. The show stars Frank Gallagher, a single father of six children. While he spends his days drunk, his six kids learn to take care of themselves through their lives.

Production[]

The series premiered on January 9, 2011 and was renewed for a second season. The show's second season premiered January 8, 2012. The series was renewed for a third season on February 1, 2012. The third season premiered on January 13, 2013, and on January 29, 2013, Shameless was renewed for a fourth season. Season 4 premiered January 12, 2014. On February 18, 2014, the series was renewed for a fifth season, which premiered on January 11, 2015. The series was renewed for a sixth season on January 12, 2015, when it premiered on January 10, 2016. Shameless was renewed for a seventh season on January 12, 2016. Season 7 premiered on October 2, 2016. Season 8 was confirmed on December 14, 2016. Season 8 premiered on November 5, 2017 and ran until January 28, 2018. Renewal for Season 9 was announced on November 8, 2017 and is scheduled to premiere September 9, 2018. Season 10 was confirmed on January 31, 2019.

In every episode, a main character(s) breaks the fourth wall and berates the viewer who missed previous episodes by identifying plot points relevant to the current episode. Sheila, Karen, Jody, Mike, and Ford are the only main characters not to have appeared in an opening.
