"Frank Gallagher: Loving Husband, Devoted Father" is the seventh episode in the first season of Shameless. It originally aired on February 20, 2011.

Synopsis[]

Frank is desperate to come up with a plan to pay the two goons looking for the $6000 that he owes; Fiona spends the night with Steve, leaving Liam in agoraphobe Sheila’s care.

Plot[]

Frank is still being chased down by Rod and Vlad, whom he has still not paid the $6000 to. Frank tries to get the money by pawning a stolen watch and trying to rob an old woman at the ATM. While walking home from school, Lip, Ian and Mandy are confronted by a frozen meat truck driver whose truck broke down. Lip falsely tells the driver that there's a phone at a nearby bar called O'Flaherty's. After the driver walks away, Lip calls the Gallaghers and they steal all of the frozen meat in the back of the truck.

At the Gallagher house, Steve wants to ease Fiona’s responsibilities so they can go out together, but Fiona is not open to the idea, as she has to watch Liam. She also believes the household will turn into chaos if she's not around. Steve ends up taking Liam to Sheila's without Fiona's permission; Sheila agrees to watch Liam overnight. After getting the kids' permission, Fiona reluctantly decides to stay at a hotel with Steve overnight. Frank's friend Kermit arrives at the Gallagher house with a large collection of Frank's mail. Fiona goes through the mail and discovers that Frank has been committing credit card fraud using the children's identities. Disgusted, Fiona goes to the Alibi Room to confront Frank.

At the Kash and Grab, Ian discovers Kash with a black eye. Kash reveals that he had pulled a gun on Mickey for shoplifting; however, Mickey punched Kash in the eye and stole the gun. In an attempt to solve the shoplifting issue, Linda hires a company to install security cameras in the store. Kash and Ian try to reposition the security camera so they can have sex in the storage room again. They believe they are successful and have sex, during which time the camera reverts to its initial position, capturing the affair. At the Jackson house, Sheila has a good time babysitting Liam, but things go wrong when Liam wanders out the front door when Sheila isn't looking. Sheila is terrified of leaving the house to save Liam; however, acknowledging that Liam could potentially get into danger, Sheila grabs a bunch of bed sheets and blankets and ties herself to the stairwell. Sheila musters enough courage to go outside and retrieve Liam, briefly overcoming her agoraphobia.

At the hotel, Steve knows one of the employees, and he uses this connection to gain access to the honeymoon suite. Fiona and Steve end up having a good time: they order room service and go skinny dipping in the hotel pool. The next day, Ian goes to the Milkovich house to retrieve Kash’s gun. He wakes up Mickey with a crowbar and demands the gun back; Mickey tackles Ian and the two wrestle, resulting in Mickey sitting on top of Ian with the crowbar in his hand. After a brief moment, Mickey drops the crowbar and the two have sex.

After being inspired by a homeless man, Frank decides to fake his own death in order to get rid of Rod and Vlad. He convinces his kids to help him with the plan: Debbie gets a suit from the dry cleaners, Lip and Kevin carjack a hearse, and Veronica and Frank purchase black market drugs to make Frank appear dead. Returning from Sheila’s to pick up Liam, Fiona and Steve are informed of Frank’s plan. After being informed of Frank’s death by Kevin, Rod and Vlad visit the Gallagher house for confirmation. Convinced that Frank is dead, Rod and Vlad agree to call off Frank’s debt. Meanwhile, Linda discovers Kash and Ian’s affair after checking the security cameras, and she punches Ian in the face. Not wanting to be embarrassed at their mosque, Linda allows Kash and Ian to continue the affair under the condition that Kash impregnates her first.

The Gallaghers fabricate a wake for Frank at the Alibi; Rod and Vlad reveal that they plan to return to Milwaukee. After the two men leave, Frank appears from hiding, and everyone in the bar celebrates the plan’s success. Frank falls and accidentally breaks the bar's flatscreen TV, to Kevin's dismay.

Post Credit Scene
Frank purchases a new television at a store; he uses a credit card in Liam's name.
